Q&A
Favorite creatures?
Cats, bats, tarsiers, snails, amphibians (newts, frogs, salamanders, y todos), birds, raccoons, insects, lemurs, possums, nudibranchs, mice/rats... I really dig learning about microscopic organisms too.
What are you jamming to?
Well if you want a taste, tune in to
Morning Bunz, a monthly
music show I co-host. I most consistently listen to "oldies" (40s, 50s, 60s, 70s)
but I understand that also doesn't quite mean
anything. Right now (October 2025): I'm on a big Kraftwerk
kick, listening to a lot of nostalgic early to mid aughts rap,
and a ton of percussive dance/pop music from the 80s-present.
Some (wide) genres I enjoy are:
bossa nova
jazz
R&B
soul
samba
crappy 90s/00s pop
(old) country
blues
grandpa music (como Bobby Darin, Roy Orbison, etc.)
various electronic genres (house, jungle, drum and bass, ambient, techno, hardstyle, etc.)
emotional-guitar-men (Neil Young, Elliott Smith, etc.)
Crazy Frog
folk
cumbia
merengue
disco
I'd add pop, but I feel like that also doesn't actually communicate much.
I also like finding music based on the instrument used. I really enjoy:
vibraphone
slide guitar
tabla
tombak/doumbek
santur
neyanba
various dulcimers
What are you reading?
I am usually reading folktales from around the world. I particularly enjoy medieval Sufi stories and poetry; they often have a lot of very playful humor. I like thinking about how people have always been drawn to comedy/comedic affects. I also like reading nonfiction about history, science, and math. I don't read fiction often anymore, but I'm not a hater. Online, I am glued to
wikipedia and refreshing the news until the tachycardia firmly sets in.
Favorite scents/notes?
citrus blossoms, gardenia, damascus rose, jasmine (all of the above, irl ONLY)
oud, warm, woody, resin, petrichor, amber, bergamot, vetiver, cedar, cypress, fir, moss, cardamom, pepper, ylang ylang, orange blossom, musk, beeswax, smoke, tobacco, sandalwood, you get the gist.
Favorite season?
It is a tie between autumn and winter. I think spring is objectively the best season... but my personal preference is the tie above. I love the cozy feeling that the cold seasons bring. I don't reside in a snowy place. Winter and autumn just bring rain, which then wakes up all the nature that turned dusty and yellow in the summer. It feels very inspiring each time! I love to see the lively renewal of an environment that appears/appeared so dormant and hopeless.
Favorite nature zone?
I love being in a dense old growth forest, filled with ferns, mushrooms, moss, and all the good stuff. I love how cluttered and alive everything feels there.
Favorite fruit:
nice ripe summer tomatoes
